Recertification

How to renew your certificate

What is recertification?

When you receive an IPMA® certificate, it is valid for 5 years. To continue using it beyond this period, timely recertification is required. During the recertification process, we review whether you have gained sufficient professionally relevant experience since your last certification to extend your certificate for another 5 years. For this purpose, the required application documents must be submitted on time. In these documents, you simply record your completed continuing education hours as well as the projects, consulting activities, or training sessions you have carried out.

Details regarding the required application documents can be found here and in the respective guideline included with the application documents for your certification level. You can apply for recertification by submitting the completed documents through our certification portal.

What should I know about recertification?

Please note that the requirements for recertification vary depending on the certification level and specialization. In some cases, they consist of a combination of project work and continuing education activities. For IPMA® Levels C through A, at least 30 months of practical project management experience and 175 hours of continuing education are required. For recertification of IPMA® Level D, 175 hours of continuing education are required. These can, for example, be completed through GPM seminars. For individuals wishing to renew their certificate as an IPMA® Trainer or Consultant, separate requirements apply. These are outlined in the table contained in the relevant CCT® examination guideline.
